Spiritual Pressure Guided Bayelsa Governor's Deputy Choice

On December 11, 2025, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri revealed that his choice of Peter Akp as the new deputy governor was significantly influenced by "spiritual pressure." This decision followed the death of former deputy governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. During a special thanksgiving service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God headquarters in Yenagoa, Diri stated that Akp, a pastor in the church, was divinely directed to him through prayer.

He noted that Akp had worked closely with Ewhrudjakpo for nearly six years and was a "perfect match" for the role. Diri emphasized that the decision was based on Akp's competence rather than speculation about their relationship.

Akp shared his personal journey from poverty to public office, recounting the struggles his family faced and how his father's determination helped him succeed. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including state legislators and church leaders, who acknowledged the contributions of individuals to the success of the occasion.
