Diri Faces Pressure in Choosing New Deputy Governor

Douye Diri, the Governor of Bayelsa State, announced that he experienced intense spiritual pressure while selecting Dr. Peter Akp as his new deputy governor after the passing of Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

Diri stated that Akp, who is a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), was sworn in on February 25, 2025. During a special thanksgiving service held at the RCCG regional headquarters in Yenagoa, Diri expressed gratitude for divine guidance in making this decision.

He emphasized that Akp's close working relationship with the late Ewhrudjakpo over nearly six years made him a perfect match for the role. Diri also mentioned that he sought God's direction amid the pressures he faced in making this choice, affirming that Akp's competence and capacity were key factors in his selection.

The governor urged the congregation to focus on divine guidance rather than rumors regarding Akp's ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the deputy governor.
