Diri Appoints Peter Akp as New Deputy Governor of Bayelsa

On February 25, 2025, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State appointed Dr. Peter Akp as his new deputy governor, succeeding Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away.

During a special thanksgiving event at the Redeemed Christian Church of God headquarters in Yenagoa, Diri revealed that he faced intense spiritual pressure while making this decision. He emphasized that his choice of Akp was divinely directed and that Akp had worked closely with the late Ewhrudjakpo for nearly six years, making him a perfect match for the role.

Diri stated that he sought God's guidance amid the pressure and that Akp's competence would help deliver on the administration's goals. Akp shared his personal journey from poverty, recounting his father's determination to send him to school despite financial hardships.

The event was attended by various dignitaries, including state legislators and religious leaders, who acknowledged individual contributions to the state's success.
