Dr. Tunji Olowolafe Launches Eye Surgery Training Centre

Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, a former physician turned infrastructure and investment expert, funded West Africa’s first advanced ophthalmic surgical simulation centre at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, dedicating it to the memory of his late wife, Gbemisola Olowolafe.

This facility employs virtual reality to train eye surgeons, addressing the shortage of skilled ophthalmic surgeons in the region. On the first anniversary of Gbemisola's death, Olowolafe launched the N1 billion Gbemisola Olowolafe Miva Scholarship, aimed at funding university education for 1,000 Nigerian students.

He serves as Chancellor of Ekiti State University and Pro-Chancellor of Miva Open University, rewarding 83 first-class graduates with N500,000 each. Olowolafe has also partnered with Springpod to provide Nigerian students with free virtual internships.

His leadership roles include chairing the Lekki Concession Company and holding positions on the boards of InfraCorpNigeria, the Central Bank of Nigeria, and the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority. The simulation centre represents a lasting legacy, ensuring Gbemisola's name is associated with restored sight.
