Oyo Governor Makinde Reaffirms Commitment to Returnees

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde reaffirmed his administration's commitment to the reintegration of returnees from human trafficking during a stakeholder dialogue held at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Ibadan. The governor announced the Youth Empowerment Reintegration Project (YERP), which aims to empower and train 700 rural returnees in climate-smart agriculture and livelihood programs to reduce irregular migration.

He emphasized the need for sustained advocacy and community engagement to discourage unsafe migration. The governor also noted the allocation of 10,000 hectares of land by the Oyo State Ministry of Agriculture to support young farmers.

Makinde's administration remains firm in opposing human trafficking and illegal migration, providing psychosocial support and economic opportunities for returnees. Dr.

Sarah Adeyinka from the University of Amsterdam commended the state's efforts, while Mr. Kayod Alfr from NAPTIP warned Nigerians to be cautious of job offers on social media that could lead to trafficking.
