NDC Strengthens Political Influence in Katsina for 2027

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is ramping up efforts to consolidate the political influence of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in Katsina State as the 2027 elections approach. NDC governorship candidate Aliyu Ilu Barde stated that the party is building a strong grassroots structure by connecting with rural communities.

He emphasized that Obi and Kwankwaso are the party’s most significant political assets, particularly in the North, where Kwankwaso has a robust political movement and Obi appeals to young urban voters. Barde expressed optimism about the NDC's prospects in Katsina, citing the party's growing grassroots presence.

Kwankwaso's visit to Katsina in June included the inauguration of the party's new state secretariat, where he urged members to focus on grassroots mobilization and highlighted key campaign issues such as insecurity and youth empowerment. Analysts note that while the NDC is emerging as a serious challenger, it faces a tough battle against the ruling APC's established political machinery.
