Goje Declares No 2027 Election Bid, Dismisses Retirement Claims

Mohammed Danjuma Goje, the former Governor of Gombe State and current Senator representing Gombe Central, stated in an interview with BBC Hausa that he has voluntarily chosen not to contest the 2027 election. He dismissed claims that Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya forced him out of politics, asserting that his decision was guided by divine will.

Goje expressed acceptance of the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary, where he lost the party’s ticket, and emphasized his desire to allow younger politicians to take over. He mentioned that he had previously decided in 2019 not to seek another Senate term but was persuaded by supporters to run again.

Goje noted that he could still return to the Senate under a different political party if he chose to. He reflected on his political journey, stating that he has shifted from competing against opponents to supporting younger politicians he has mentored.
