Wike Defends Polling Unit Visits During FCT Elections

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, defended his visits to polling units during the recent elections, stating that he acted within his rights to monitor security situations. Speaking during a monthly media briefing in Abuja, Wike explained that he visited 10 polling units out of over 3,000 in the FCT to assess security and ensure peace and order.

He argued that limiting movement to only a few polling units would not affect the overall electoral outcome. Wike dismissed allegations that his visits were politically motivated, clarifying that he was not a candidate in the elections and was not campaigning.

He emphasized that his role was strictly supervisory and aimed at maintaining security during the electoral process. Wike's presence at the polling units was described as part of his administrative responsibilities, and he stated that he did not require permission to assess the security situation.
