Makinde Defends Oyo Finances Amid APC Criticism

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has publicly stated that he has nothing to hide concerning the state's finances. This declaration came in response to a statement from the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which condemned a Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan that determined the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) lacks the authority to investigate the current administration's finances.

The APC, represented by its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, indicated that the EFCC would fulfill its duties at the appropriate time. In his response, Makinde emphasized that his administration's decision to seek judicial clarification regarding the EFCC's request for contract details from 2021 to 2025 was not an attempt to evade investigation.

He asserted that neither he nor the Oyo State Government has anything to hide and described the APC's claims as misleading. Makinde's statement, issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, reinforced that seeking court intervention is a constitutional right and not an admission of guilt.
