Oyo APC and Makinde Clash Over EFCC Financial Records

On Thursday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State and the state government engaged in a dispute regarding the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's (EFCC) request for records of contracts and financial transactions from Governor Seyi Makinde's administration over the past seven years. The APC accused Makinde of attempting to hinder the EFCC's investigation, labeling his actions as appalling and shameful.

Olawale Sadare, the APC's Publicity Secretary, criticized Makinde for allegedly treating the state as his personal estate and failing to ensure accountability. The APC's statement questioned why Makinde would resist providing an account of state resources.

In response, the Oyo State government clarified that its decision to seek judicial clarification on the EFCC's request was not an attempt to obstruct the investigation. This exchange followed a Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan that deemed the EFCC's request speculative and a "fishing expedition.".
