Iñaki Williams Retires from International Football with Ghana

Iñaki Williams, the forward for Athletic Bilbao, has officially retired from international football with Ghana at the age of 32, ending a four-year journey with the Black Stars. He announced his decision on X on Thursday, expressing gratitude to supporters and stating that Ghana will always hold a special place in his heart.

Williams made 28 appearances for Ghana and scored two goals after switching his international allegiance from Spain in 2022. He had previously made one senior appearance for Spain in 2016.

His time with the Black Stars included participation in two FIFA World Cups, specifically in Qatar in 2022 and the upcoming tournament co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, as well as the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d'Ivoire. Ghana was eliminated from the 2026 World Cup.

Despite his international retirement, Williams continues to serve as the captain of Athletic Bilbao. His younger brother, Nico Williams, currently represents Spain at the senior international level.
