ICPC Detains Ex-Minister Nnaji Over Forgery Allegations

Geoffrei Uchechukwu Nnaji, the former Minister of Science and Technology, was detained by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on July 1, 2026, at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. His arrest followed a failure to honor a formal invitation from the ICPC regarding an investigation into allegations of forgery concerning his academic credentials, specifically a degree certificate from the University of Nigeria Nsukka and a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate.

The ICPC had previously issued a bench warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear for an investigative interview scheduled for May 15, 2026. Upon his arrival at the airport, Nnaji was apprehended and taken into custody by the ICPC for further investigation.

The commission assured the public that the matter would be pursued diligently according to the law.
