Roper Twins Win Bronze Medals at Commonwealth Games

Identical twins Abigail and Emily Roper made history for Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow by both winning bronze medals on the same day. Abigail Roper secured third place in the women’s vault, finishing just ahead of her sister Emily, who later clinched her own bronze medal in the uneven bars.

Abigail expressed her surprise and joy at winning a medal in her first major tournament final, stating, “To come away with a bronze medal is just insane.” Emily, who initially felt disappointment after finishing fourth in the vault, focused on her performance in the bars and successfully regained her composure to achieve her medal. She noted the importance of resilience in her performance, saying, “Going from vault straight to bars, it wasn’t that long a time.” In addition to the Roper twins, Welsh gymnast Jemima Taylor finished seventh in her event.

Overall, Wales has now secured six medals in Glasgow, comprising five bronze and one silver.
