IG Urges Nigerians to Stop Sharing Manipulated Police Videos

During an interaction with members of the Crime Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CCAN) in Abuja, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, appealed to Nigerians to refrain from recycling old and manipulated police videos that mislead the public and contribute to unnecessary panic. He stressed the importance of public understanding and support for police personnel, who face significant challenges while ensuring citizen safety.

The IG highlighted the negative impact of such misinformation on police morale and operational effectiveness, especially during a time of heightened security challenges. He noted that the Nigeria Police Force has been under pressure, with officers working extended hours and facing risks to their lives.

In 2022 alone, the FCT Police Command lost 140 officers to violent attacks and duty-related incidents. The IG reaffirmed the police's commitment to transparency and accountability, stating that officers found guilty of misconduct would face disciplinary measures.

He also called for collaboration with the media to promote accurate security reporting.
