Nigeria Police Disburses N2.3 Billion to Fallen Officers' Families

On Thursday, the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of Inspector-General Olatunji Disu, disbursed N2.3 billion to 2,971 beneficiaries and next-of-kins of deceased police officers. This disbursement covers insurance policy years from 2017 to 2025 and was presented in Abuja.

Disu stated that these payments are legitimate entitlements resulting from the sacrifices of officers who died while serving. He acknowledged the challenging security environment that has led to the deaths of police personnel and emphasized that while no amount of money can replace lost loved ones, these payments represent an institutional responsibility.

Disu urged beneficiaries to use the funds wisely for sustainable needs, particularly for the education and welfare of dependents. This latest disbursement follows a similar payment of N2.4 billion made about five months prior to 1,075 beneficiaries, which included recoveries from unpaid insurance obligations, highlighting ongoing efforts to address welfare and insurance benefits for families of deceased officers.
