Accord Party Accuses IGP of Unjust Detention of Member

The Accord Party has accused Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu of ordering the detention of its member, Popoola Alaba, despite claims that no evidence links him to any criminal activity. Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for the Accord Party Governorship Campaign Council in Osun State, stated during an interview on ARISE News that Alaba was arrested while conducting political mobilization and was not found with any weapons or incriminating materials.

Olajengbesi criticized the police for not publicly displaying evidence to support the allegations against Alaba, which included claims of possession of firearms. He mentioned that discussions with police officers revealed no petition had been filed against Alaba and that nothing incriminating was found during his arrest.

The spokesperson alleged that the continued detention was based on directives from the highest level of the police hierarchy. He called on the police to present any evidence they possess and challenged journalists and civil society groups to verify the circumstances surrounding the arrest.
