IGP Disu Warns Against Youth Mobilization for Violence

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu addressed political actors at the National Youth Leadership and Security Dialogue in Abuja, warning against the recruitment of young Nigerians for political violence and voter intimidation. Disu stated that the Nigeria Police Force would not protect acts of violence, including the possession of weapons for electoral purposes, attacks on political opponents, and destruction of property.

He urged political leaders not to incite youth to commit crimes for political gain, emphasizing that Nigeria's future depends on the younger generation. Disu highlighted the dangers of political violence extending into the digital realm, where misinformation and cyberbullying can provoke real-world violence.

He called on young Nigerians to engage in responsible digital citizenship and to verify information before sharing. The program aimed to foster partnerships with youth to build safer communities and promote peaceful democratic participation.
