Young Lawyers Seminar on Data Privacy and AI Governance

The NBA Ikeja held a seminar aimed at young lawyers in Nigeria, focusing on the critical areas of data privacy and artificial intelligence governance. Dr.

Great Ijeoma, a speaker at the event, urged young lawyers to embrace these emerging fields, which are reshaping the future of legal practice and creating new career opportunities. He highlighted that data has become foundational in various sectors, including banking, fintech, healthcare, telecommunications, insurance, e-commerce, education, and cybersecurity.

The seminar addressed the significant legal, ethical, and regulatory risks associated with AI-driven systems, including privacy breaches and discrimination. Dr.

Ijeoma noted that the reliance on digital systems is increasing the demand for legal expertise in governance frameworks, cybersecurity compliance, and data management, particularly in light of the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023. He encouraged young lawyers to move beyond traditional legal practices and develop technological awareness to remain relevant in the evolving legal market.
