Kebbi Governor Nasir Idris Champions Workers' Rights

At the inaugural Nigeria Rights of Workers Summit held in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris pledged his administration's support for Nigerian workers. He announced an increase in the state's minimum wage to N75,000, surpassing the national minimum wage of N70,000.

Since taking office, Idris has ensured regular payments of salaries, gratuities, death benefits, and pensions, with N16 billion disbursed from 2023 to date for these purposes. He also mentioned increased cash allocations to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to enhance service delivery.

Idris expressed his support for a salary review and readiness to implement the outcomes of negotiations for a new wage. Comrade Audu Titus Amba, the National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers and NLC deputy president, indicated that the NLC would engage the federal government for a new minimum wage, asserting that any amount below N500,000 is inadequate for a living wage.

The summit also celebrated 88 years of legalized unionism in Nigeria.
