Kalu Threatens APC Resignation Over Tinubu and Bishops

On Wednesday, Orji Kalu, the former Governor of Abia State and current Senator representing Abia North, declared on Channels Television’s Politics Today that he would resign from the All Progressives Congress (APC) if President Bola Tinubu disrespects Catholic bishops or the opposition. Kalu, who previously served as Chief Whip of the Senate, dismissed claims that Tinubu had insulted the Catholic Church, asserting that the President maintains a good relationship with the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria.

He emphasized the importance of the bishops as the conscience of the nation and stated that Tinubu has always welcomed their audience. The controversy arose following Cardinal John Onaiyekan's comments about a meeting with Tinubu, where he expressed concerns over Nigeria's economic and security issues.

Kalu also expressed confidence in Tinubu's chances for re-election in 2027, citing the need for better communication of the government's achievements in infrastructure, security, and economic reforms.
