Oluremi Tinubu Promises Akwete Wrapper if Re-elected

Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, stated that she would wear an Akwete wrapper if her husband, President Bola Tinubu, secures a second term in office. This announcement was made during her first visit to the Akwete Weaving Cooperative Village in Abia State on Tuesday.

She also pledged a ₦2 billion donation aimed at revitalizing the local weaving industry. Oluremi Tinubu expressed her admiration for the cooperative's women, commending their dedication to preserving the weaving craft across generations.

She encouraged Nigerians to support local weavers by embracing Igbo traditional attire made from Akwete fabric. The First Lady opted for an informal approach during her visit, choosing to engage personally with the women rather than following a scripted agenda.

She expressed gratitude to Abia State Governor Alex Otti, acknowledging his support and recalling her previous outreach to his wife regarding the weaving tradition. Oluremi Tinubu emphasized the importance of patronizing locally made textiles to boost the livelihoods of rural weavers.
