Oluremi Tinubu Promises to Wear Akwete Wrapper if Re-elected

On Tuesday, during her first visit to the Akwete Weaving Cooperative Village in Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State, Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, pledged to adopt the traditional Akwete wrapper as part of her regular attire if her husband, President Bola Tinubu, secures a second term in office. She announced a ₦2 billion donation aimed at revitalizing the Akwete weaving industry, emphasizing the importance of preserving this indigenous textile tradition.

Oluremi Tinubu praised the craftsmanship of the Akwete fabric, describing it as comfortable and worthy of national recognition. She encouraged Nigerians to support locally produced fabrics to strengthen local industries and improve rural livelihoods.

The visit aimed to connect with artisans and understand their challenges, and she commended Abia State Governor Alex Otti for his support of the state's cultural heritage.
