Ilorin Emirate Plans 2026 Grand Durbar Celebration

The Ilorin Emirate Grand Durbar Committee, chaired by Engr Suleiman Alapansanpa, has unveiled plans for the 2026 Grand Durbar, set to take place on May 28, 2026, at the Kwara Baseball Park in Ilorin. The theme of the celebration will focus on prosperity and diversity, reflecting the historical coexistence of various ethnic groups within the Ilorin Emirate.

Alapansanpa emphasized that the Emir remains a symbol of unity among the Fulani, Yoruba, Nupe, Baruba, Hausa, and Gobirawa communities. The event will feature a grand procession with no fewer than 500 horses and will include significant security arrangements in partnership with major security agencies.

The committee aims to modernize and preserve cultural traditions through initiatives like a digital media project to document Ilorin's history. Additionally, a vendor fair will be introduced to stimulate local business and tourism.

The Grand Durbar is expected to attract tourists, investors, and members of the Nigerian diaspora, celebrating Ilorin's rich cultural heritage.
