Tobi Amusan Wins Silver at World Athletics Championship

Nigerian hurdler Tobi Amusan won a silver medal in the women's 100m hurdles at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship held in Budapest, Hungary, on September 11, finishing with a time of 12.34 seconds. She placed second behind American Olympic champion Masai Russell, who won with a time of 12.22 seconds, while the Netherlands’ Nadine Visser secured bronze in 12.39 seconds.

Amusan, 29, faced a challenging season marked by minor injuries, a third-place finish at the Commonwealth Games, and a fourth-place finish at the Diamond League Final. She expressed the physical and emotional toll of elite competition, stating, “I’m not a robot.

You know, the body did shut down at a point.” Despite these challenges, Amusan regained her momentum and approached the championship with determination. She acknowledged the support of her family, mentor, coach, and boyfriend in overcoming her struggles.

Amusan warned that the women's 100m hurdles would become increasingly competitive in the upcoming season.
