Kwankwaso Denies Supporting Tinubu's Re-election Claims

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State and leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), dismissed allegations made by Sanusi Batur, spokesperson for the current Kano State governor Abba Yusuf, suggesting that he is working to re-elect Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential elections. In an interview with Global TV on Wednesday night, Kwankwaso labeled the claims as false and misleading, asserting that he does not work for anyone.

He acknowledged a long-standing friendship with Tinubu but clarified that it does not imply political alignment. Kwankwaso criticized the current administration, stating that President Tinubu is not fully aware of the country's realities and that the situation is challenging.

He also mentioned ongoing political discussions within the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) coalition, expressing a preference for a southern presidential candidate, specifically Peter Obi, for the upcoming elections. Kwankwaso's group aims to mobilize support across the country in the lead-up to the elections scheduled for January 16, 2027.
