Imo State Achieves First Robotic-Assisted Surgery

Imo State achieved a significant milestone in healthcare by performing its first robotic-assisted surgery at the Imo Robotics and Oncology Centre (IROC) on [date not specified]. The operation was conducted by a team led by Professor Kingsley Ekwueme, a UK-based consultant robotic and laparoscopic surgeon and an indigene of Imo State.

Governor Uzodimma, who witnessed the surgery, described it as a major step towards enhancing quality and affordable specialized healthcare in the state.

He noted that the centre operates under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, ensuring sustainability and quality management. Uzodimma encouraged residents to enroll in the Imo State Health Insurance Scheme to improve access to advanced medical treatments.
