Imo Police Dismiss Three Officers Over Kidnapping Scandal

The Imo State Police Command has dismissed three officers—Sgt. Gift Ekwuem, Sgt.

Ikechukwu Eto, and Cpl. Divin Okwuaru—after an internal investigation linked them to serious crimes including kidnapping, armed robbery, and car snatching.

The investigation was triggered by a complaint regarding the alleged abduction of Mr. Obinna Egbu in Owerri on February 8, 2026, where the officers reportedly extorted 1.7 million naira at gunpoint.

Civilian driver Alex Chukwu identified the officers in connection with the incident. DSP Henri Okoy, the police spokesperson, emphasized that the decision to dismiss the officers sends a clear warning across the command.

New Commissioner Audu Garba Bosso has vowed a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, misconduct, and abuse of power within the force, which has raised fresh concerns about accountability.
