FG Declares October 1 Holiday for Nigeria's Independence

The Federal Government has officially declared Thursday, October 1, 2026, as a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary. This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government, with the statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani.

In his address, Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians both domestically and internationally, emphasizing the occasion as a moment to reflect on the nation's progress since gaining independence. He called for a renewed commitment to unity and development, urging citizens to prioritize patriotism, peaceful coexistence, and mutual respect in their interactions.
