Federal Government Declares October 1 Holiday for Independence

The Federal Government has officially declared Thursday, October 1, 2026, as a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary. This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government, in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.

In his message, Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians both domestically and internationally, encouraging them to use the occasion to foster unity, patriotism, peaceful coexistence, and mutual respect. He emphasized that peace and stability are essential for national development and called on citizens to emulate the love for the country exhibited by its founding fathers.
