inDrive to Continue Operations in Nigeria After Uber Exit

inDrive, represented by Country Director for Nigeria Timothy Oladimeji, announced on September 3 that it will maintain operations and invest in Nigeria following Uber's exit from the market on September 2. Oladimeji stated that Nigeria is a strategic market for inDrive, which has seen a growing user base.

The company operates in several cities, including Lagos, Abuja, Benin City, Ibadan, Owerri, and Enugu. Unlike competitors, inDrive allows passengers and drivers to negotiate fares directly, which Oladimeji claims contributes to lower service fees.

However, the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) expressed skepticism about inDrive's commitment, emphasizing that improvements for drivers should be measured by actual earnings rather than announcements. AUATON's public relations officer, Steven Iwindoye, highlighted the financial burdens drivers face and called for sustainable fare structures and better representation.

The departure of Uber leaves inDrive, Bolt, and LagRide as primary options for Nigerian commuters.
