INEC Prepares for August 2026 Osun Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared its full readiness for the Osun Governorship Election scheduled for August 15, 2026. During the Osun State Governorship Election Stakeholders’ Forum in Osogbo, INEC Chairman, Prof.

Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, assured stakeholders of the commission's logistical, technological, and operational preparedness. A total of 2,339,233 voters have been registered across 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs), with 14 political parties participating.

To improve PVC collection rates, the deadline has been extended to July 31, 2026, with 322,822 newly registered voters having collected their PVCs as of July 26, 2026. INEC will deploy 4,427 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices, including 664 backups, and will conduct a mock accreditation on August 1, 2026.

The commission is collaborating with security agencies to ensure safety at polling units and has condemned recent attacks on INEC offices. Amupitan urged citizens to participate actively in the election and reassured that INEC remains impartial.
