INEC Extends PVC Collection Deadline in Osun State

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan, announced an extension of the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection period in Osun State from the original deadline of Tuesday to Friday, July 31.

This decision was made due to a low turnout, with only 322,822 newly registered voters, approximately 60 percent, having collected their PVCs by the initial deadline. Amupitan emphasized the importance of collecting PVCs, stating that only those with valid cards would be eligible to vote.

He assured that INEC is fully prepared for a peaceful, credible, and transparent governorship election, with 2,339,233 registered voters across 30 local government areas. The commission has deployed 4,427 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines for seamless voter accreditation.

Voting will begin at 8:30 a.m. on election day, and a mock accreditation exercise is scheduled for August 1. Special security measures will be implemented in identified vulnerable areas, and INEC has activated its Electoral Risk Management framework.
