INEC Opens Candidates’ Nomination Portal for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will open the candidates’ nomination portal for the 2027 general elections on June 26, 2026. INEC has commenced a two-day training program for political party officials on June 25-26, 2026, aimed at equipping them with the necessary knowledge and procedures for the electronic submission of candidate documents.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, delivered opening remarks at the second quarterly consultative meeting with political party leaders held at the commission's headquarters in Abuja. He issued official access codes to political parties for the nomination portal, which will allow them to upload candidate names and required information.

Professor Amupitan urged political parties to ensure their ICT personnel are adequately prepared for the exercise, which must be completed within the stipulated deadlines. The portal will automatically close after the prescribed period, and the training is particularly important for officials participating in the nomination process for the first time, aiming to reduce challenges and ensure a hitch-free nomination exercise.
