INEC Schedules By-Elections for September 19 in Four States

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that five by-elections will take place on September 19 across four states: Gombe, Bauchi, Kano, and Delta. This decision aims to fill vacancies in both the House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly.

Mr. Tunde Oketola, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, confirmed that the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State will hold a federal legislative by-election due to the death of House of Representatives member Yaya Bauchi Tongo. Additionally, state assembly elections will occur in Disina and Sakwa constituencies in Bauchi State, Udu State Constituency in Delta State, and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State.

INEC has instructed political parties to complete their nomination processes in line with the electoral timetable. Campaigns will conclude before election day, with security agencies ensuring safety for voters and election officials.

By-elections are mandated to fill legislative vacancies that arise before the end of an elected official’s term.
