INEC and NOA Unite to Combat Voter Apathy for 2027

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA) have pledged to collaborate on a nationwide campaign aimed at addressing voter apathy and vote-buying ahead of the 2027 general elections. Amupitan stated that INEC cannot deliver credible elections alone, regardless of technological advancements. He highlighted the need for citizen engagement and education to counteract cynicism and misinformation that deter voter participation.

Amupitan identified voter apathy as a significant threat to Nigeria's electoral system, noting low turnout rates despite high national debates. He called for grassroots voter education campaigns to explain the importance of voting.

The campaign will also focus on training NOA field officers to act as ambassadors for INEC's processes. The collaboration aims to enhance voter education and reduce electoral malpractice, with a commitment to addressing the knowledge gap among citizens regarding the electoral process.
