INEC Registers 2.4 Million New Voters in Nigeria

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) disclosed that 2,436,275 Nigerians successfully completed the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise as of July 10, 2026. Kano State recorded the highest number of completions with 182,749 voters, followed by Edo State with 121,554 and Lagos State with 114,983.

Women accounted for 1,282,831 registrations, representing 52.65% of the total, while men made up 1,153,444 registrations, or 47.35%. Young people aged 18-34 formed the largest group among new registrants, totaling 1,682,962 individuals, which is 69% of the total.

Additionally, 1,210,624 students completed their registration, and 8,326 persons with disabilities registered during the exercise. INEC processed 252,911 requests for voter registration transfers and 91,830 applications for replacing Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

The commission extended the nationwide CVR exercise by two weeks, shifting the closing date from July 10 to July 24, 2026, and introduced an online self-service portal for first-time voters.
