INEC Schedules Gombe Bye-Election for September 2026

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the bye-election for the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026. This election is necessitated by the vacancy created by the death of the former lawmaker, Tongo Yaya.

INEC released a timetable detailing the electoral process, signed by Public Affairs Officer Mohorret Bigun on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner. The Notice of Election will be published on August 20, with political parties conducting their primaries from August 21 to 25.

The list of nominated candidates will be published on September 8, and campaign activities will run from September 9 to September 17. INEC emphasized the importance of adherence to the timetable and assured stakeholders of a fair electoral process across 903 polling units, 31 registration areas, and three local government areas.

The commission urged eligible voters to participate peacefully in the electoral process.
