Workshop in Katsina Tackles Child Malnutrition Crisis

The Nigeria INGO Forum (NIF) organized a three-day capacity-building workshop in Katsina State to enhance collaboration between international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and journalists in addressing child malnutrition. The event, attended by various humanitarian representatives, focused on equipping journalists with skills to report accurately on nutrition-related issues, particularly in conflict-affected communities.

Ademilola Adesanya, a media consultant, highlighted the media's critical role in shaping public understanding and influencing policy responses to malnutrition. She stressed the importance of increasing government investment in nutrition programs, especially for maternal and child health, to mitigate the long-term impacts of malnutrition on children.

The workshop included practical sessions on story development and reporting techniques, aiming to produce data-driven narratives that encourage timely government interventions. The malnutrition crisis in Katsina is exacerbated by insecurity and poverty, with an estimated 1,070,243 cases of moderate acute malnutrition projected between October 2025 and September 2026.
