FG Announces Pay Rise for Military Amid Security Expansion

The federal government of Nigeria has announced plans for a new pay rise for military personnel, aimed at improving their welfare and boosting morale. General Christopher Musa (rtd), the Minister of Defence, revealed this during a workshop for widows and wives of service personnel in Abuja.

The salary adjustment recognizes the sacrifices of armed forces members and is part of broader efforts to enhance security. Recently, President Bola Tinubu approved the establishment of four new Nigerian Army divisions, increasing the total from eight to twelve.

The new divisions include 5 Division in Makurdi, 9 Division in Ilorin, 10 Division in Jalingo, and 83 Division in Benin City. This expansion is designed to improve rapid response capabilities and strengthen counterinsurgency operations.

Additionally, the government plans to recruit 28,000 new personnel and has increased funding for training and logistics to support sustained military operations against groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP.
