Germany Supports Nigeria's Fight Against Insecurity

The German Federal Government, represented by Thomas Rachel, has reaffirmed its commitment to support Nigeria in tackling insecurity and promoting peace, particularly for the residents of Benue State. During a press briefing in Abuja following a fact-finding visit to Yelwata, Rachel highlighted the urgent need for protection and humanitarian support for communities affected by violence, including internally displaced persons (IDPs).

He described the visit as deeply emotional, especially after the June 2025 massacre where 200 Christians were killed. Residents expressed fears for their safety and called for government support to return to their ancestral homes.

The region has faced significant violence, with 3,000 people displaced and homes burned. Rachel noted that insecurity remains a major concern across Nigeria, affecting both Christian and Muslim communities.

He emphasized the importance of dialogue and mutual respect among religious groups to resolve the crisis and reiterated Germany's commitment to promoting freedom of religion and belief as fundamental human rights.
