Tinubu's Army Expansion: 12 Divisions, 28,000 Personnel

The Nigeria Citizens Watch for Good Governance (NCWGG) praised President Bola Tinubu for his approval to expand the Nigerian Army from its current structure to 12 divisions and recruit 28,000 additional personnel. This decision is seen as a historic turning point that could reshape Nigeria's security architecture and strengthen the fight against terrorism and violent crimes.

Igwe Ude-Umanta, the Group’s Director of Communications, stated that this initiative reflects the President's commitment to national security under the Renewed Hope Agenda and aligns with Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution. Ude-Umanta described the expansion as a "game changer" that would enhance the operational capacity of the Armed Forces and improve troop morale.

He also commended Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Ibrahim Shuaibu and Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede for their leadership and reforms that have improved military operations. Ude-Umanta cited growing international recognition of Nigeria's counter-terrorism efforts, including a commendation from former U.S.
