Troops Neutralize 662 Terrorists, Arrest 1,084 in June

In June 2026, the Armed Forces of Nigeria reported significant military successes in combating terrorism, killing 662 terrorists and arresting 1,084 suspects while rescuing 951 kidnap victims across the country. Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, stated that these achievements were made possible through intensified intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks.

The northeast region remained the epicenter of military operations, accounting for 484 terrorists killed and 370 arrests, alongside the rescue of 595 kidnap victims. Notably, 38 insurgents surrendered during these operations.

In the northwest, troops neutralized 77 terrorists, arrested 210 suspects, and rescued 153 kidnap victims. The military's operations also targeted illegal oil bunkering and criminal syndicates, leading to the neutralization of six criminal elements and the arrest of 84 suspects in the Niger Delta.
