Nigerian Troops Kill 662 Terrorists, Arrest 1,084 Suspects

During the second quarter of 2026, the Nigerian Armed Forces reported the killing of 662 terrorists and the arrest of 1,084 suspects. Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, announced these achievements at a press conference in Abuja.

The military intensified intelligence-led operations to dismantle terrorist and criminal networks, with a focus on Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Notably, 951 kidnap victims were rescued, with significant operations in the North East, where 484 terrorists were killed and 595 suspects arrested.

The operations also included the neutralization of 77 terrorists in the North West and the dismantling of illegal oil bunkering activities in the Niger Delta. In a separate incident in Benue State, 15 people were killed in an attack attributed to suspected herdsmen, prompting Governor Hyacinth Alia to call for swift action from security agencies.
