Yobe State to Build 100 Houses for IDPs and Vulnerable
Yobe State government, represented by Secretary to the State Government Dr. Muhammad Goje, announced plans to construct 100 housing units for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and vulnerable households impacted by Boko Haram insurgency.
This initiative was disclosed during a project assessment visit by a delegation from the European Union, led by Mr. Massimo De Luca.
The government has allocated a 14-acre parcel of land in Damaturu for the housing project, which is part of the Urban Reintegration Programme. This programme will be implemented through a build-operate-transfer arrangement and is funded by the European Union under the SIDPIN project, aimed at providing durable solutions for displacement caused by insurgency.
The initiative will enhance urban planning, secure land, and improve community participation, while also expanding livelihood opportunities for IDPs and host communities. The joint mission emphasized the need for sustained financial public investment and private sector participation to align donor support with the state's recovery and development agenda.
