Key Witnesses Challenge Prosecution in Diezani Bribery Case

The UK trial concerning former Nigerian Minister of Petroleum Resources Diezani Allison Madueke is facing significant challenges as key witnesses contradict the prosecution's case. The trial, held at Southwark Crown Court, involves five counts of bribery, with allegations that Madueke received gifts described as bribes from prominent figures in the oil industry to influence official decisions during her tenure.

Witness Sandro Rocha, who previously worked as a driver for Nigerian businessman Kola Aluko, testified about transporting large sums of cash to Madueke's residence. However, during cross-examination, Rocha acknowledged gaps in his recollection of events from 2009 to 2014 and admitted reliance on a witness statement prepared by the National Crime Agency.

Another witness, Amina Hamila, who managed private clients at Harrods, supported claims of a £2 million purchase linked to Madueke but conceded that transaction records did not align with her immigration history. The trial is scheduled to continue on February 23, 2026, as the defense seeks to challenge the evidentiary foundation of the prosecution's claims.
