INEC Commissioner Warns Against New Election Technology

INEC Commissioner Muhammed Haruna expressed concerns during an interview with Trust TV, stating that the introduction of additional technology for transmitting election results could worsen the problems faced during elections. He asserted that technology alone will not fully address the challenges and emphasized the importance of a gradual implementation to effectively tackle existing issues.

Haruna's comments come in the wake of recent amendments to the electoral act by the National Assembly, which were signed by President Bola Tinubu. Meanwhile, former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Odinkalu, criticized the credibility of INEC, describing its performance as a failure during an interview on Channel Television.

He argued that the shortcomings of INEC are not solely due to legal constraints but also stem from poor electoral administration, raising doubts about the commission's preparedness for future elections.
