IPOB Reiterates Call for Referendum on Nigeria's Future

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reiterated its call for a referendum in Nigeria, advocating for citizens to have the opportunity to determine their political future through a democratic process. This demand was articulated in a statement signed by spokesperson Emma Powerful.

IPOB contends that the upcoming 2027 general elections will not adequately address the longstanding constitutional and political challenges facing Nigeria. IPOB believes that a referendum would provide a peaceful means for Nigeria's diverse peoples to articulate their preferences regarding the country's political structure. The organization referenced successful referendum processes in other nations, including the United Kingdom, and questioned why its demand for self-determination should be treated differently.

IPOB has a history of linking its Biafra agitation to the need for a referendum and has previously expressed readiness to engage the Federal Government in negotiations for a United Nations-supervised referendum.
