IPOB Issues Ultimatum Over Nnamdi Kanu's Appeal Hearing

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has threatened to boycott the 2027 general elections across the South-East and other parts of Biafraland if the Federal Government does not list and hear the appeal of its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, within 14 days. This ultimatum was announced by IPOB's spokesman, Emma Powerful, following concerns from Kanu's family regarding the delay in his appeal against his conviction and life sentence.

Kanu has reached out to the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the President of the Court of Appeal for immediate action on his pending cases. IPOB accused the Federal Government of being reluctant to defend Kanu's conviction in court, despite having rushed to secure it.

The group criticized the Supreme Court's decision that overturned Kanu's earlier discharge and acquittal, asserting that the government must justify Kanu's continued detention and the legal basis for his trial. IPOB emphasized that a collective election boycott would signal a withdrawal of consent from a system perceived as unjust.
