Court Nullifies Lagbua Family's Recognition in Iragbiji

The Osun State High Court, Iragbiji Judicial Division, delivered a judgment on August 21, 2026, nullifying the Osun State government's 2025 decision to recognize the Lagbua Family as the fifth ruling house in Iragbiji. Justice G.O.

Lawal presided over Suit No. HIR/3/2025, which reaffirmed the recognition of the four existing ruling houses: Ajibode, Ogunmolu, Osungbemi, and Arodoye.

The case was initiated by representatives of these four ruling houses after the state government reopened a recommendation from the 2010 Aderibigbe judicial panel of inquiry, which had previously rejected the Lagbua family's inclusion in 2013. The court found that the government had not followed appropriate legal processes and had breached the rights of the four ruling houses by not allowing them to be heard before the 2025 decision.

The judgment also nullified the 2025 White Paper and amendments to the chieftaincy declaration. Adetayo Samson Aderibigbe, the Press Secretary to the Aragbiji, commended Oba Olabomi for his leadership throughout the legal battle.
