Iran Executes Two for Alleged Links to Israel Amid Protests

On Sunday, Iran executed two men, Mohammad Amin Biglari and Shahin Vahedparast, who were convicted of acting on behalf of Israel during a wave of anti-government protests that peaked in January. The judiciary confirmed the final verdict through the Supreme Court.

The protests, which began peacefully in late December, escalated into violent demonstrations attributed to foreign instigation, resulting in significant unrest. Iranian authorities have executed multiple individuals linked to these protests, including members of the banned People's Mujahedin of Iran (MEK).

The unrest has reportedly resulted in the deaths of approximately 3,000 people, including members of security forces and bystanders, with human rights activists estimating the toll could be as high as 7,000. The executions occurred against the backdrop of Iran's ongoing conflict with Israel, which intensified following a strike on February 28 that killed Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
